Press Release
SHRO-Cairo
Strongly Condemns Sudan Government's Kidnapping and Torturing of Citizens
March 27, 2003
The Sudan Government
has severely brutalized student demonstrations protesting war and emergency
law in Khartoum.
Reliable sources
informed the Organization that the security forces arbitrarily arrested,
tortured, and detained in clandestine detention centers these citizens:
Yasir Mohamed al-Hassan
Adil al-Shaikh
Khalil Daoud
Fathi Moahmed
al-Hassan
SHRO-Cairo strongly
condemns the Sudan Government as a worst violator of human rights. The
government forces extra-judicially killed a student and wounded many others
protesting war in peaceful demonstration these past days.
SHRO-Cairo is gravely
concerned for the health conditions of the detained citizens who have
been kidnapped from the work place or residential area for political reasons
by the security forces of the regime.
The Organization
asks the government to immediately release the detainees from jail, reinstate
them in their jobs, and abide-by international norms that call for the
full respect of peoples right to peaceful assembly and the freedom
of expression.
