SHRO-Cairo
Statement on the Release of Dr. Toby Maduot
August 4, 2002
The Sudan Human Rights
Organization Cairo Branch (SHRO-Cairo) received good news from Dr. Maduots
family about his release from security jail in Khartoum
The Organization
is grateful to the sisterly support of the Sudanese People and the Sudan
Friends who expressed grave concerns for the arbitrary arrest and detention
of this prominent leader , as they strongly called for the immediate release,
medical attention, and the insurance of the other human rights of Dr.
Maduot, the SANU leader and prominent human rights activist.
The Organization
is aware that the release of Dr. Maduot is a good sign that further indicates
the need to create the climate conducive to negotiating the permanent
and just peace in accordance with the Sudanese legitimate consensus to
enjoy democratic popular participation to establish regular democracy,
even distribution of national wealth, and constitutional state authority
with respect to the center-region relations.
The organization
takes this opportunity to ask the Government of Sudan to release all the
other Sudanese individuals who have been arbitrarily arrested or detained
by security warrants in gross violation of the rule of law and the other
international human rights norms.
