Sudan Government
Must Stop the Holocaust of Southernes
The SPLM call (November
1, 2001) on the International Community to urge the Government of Sudan
to stop military action in order to provide urgent humanitarian assistance
to the seriously affected civilian population of the Raga County is an
important invitation to the GoS and the International Community to immediately
attend to the needs of our people in this disastrous situation that continues
to destroy the civilian population, as well as the whole region.
SHRO-Cairo urges the warring parties to come to terms in order to process
humanitarian support for the innocent people that is victimized by the
acts of war of the warring parties in the area.
Most important, the Government of Sudan must stop air bombing and the
other crimes against humanity that government troops and/or the Murahleen
militias have been pursuing in the South and the other war-affected regions
of the country. These senseless crimes include the enslavement of Southerners,
starving them, killing them and destroying the precious establishments
that the SPLM installed in the SPLM-governed territories to develop them
with meager support from the USA AID, humanitarian organizations, and
a few relief agencies.
It is shameful that the same government that drills oil by military action
to gain hundreds of millions of the dollars that are only used to increase
war and the crimes against humanity versus Southerners, shamelessly extends
the same criminal behavior to destroy the South Sudanese efforts to build
their homeland even under the GoS senseless attacks.
Government must collaborate with the SPLM/SPLA and the other warring forces
to insure humanitarian support to the war-affected civilians as a top
national agenda. The United Nations, African States, and the Arab League
must take full responsibility for the stoppage of the genocide war in
Sudan that is seriously destroying the country.
The unrelenting, irresponsible, and terrorist determination of GoS to
escalate civil war is an unprecedented international crime. The most recent
pledge of Omer Al-Bashir, head of the ruling regime, to continue the same
aggression and acts of genocide in the South testifies beyond any doubt
to the terrorist nature, planning, and performance of the existing Government
of Sudan.
The International Community and the Untied Nations must not concern themselves
only with the important goal of stopping the war in the Middle East and
Afghanistan. The civil war of Sudan that thus far suffered the lives of
more than 2 million Sudanese is the real holocaust of the two centuries,
the former and the present one, that must have equal attention and real
effort to replace it with the fair and permanent peace.
The Organization asks the United Nations and the International Community
to maximize the pressure on the Government of Sudan as a State Party to
the United Nations Conventions and the Geneva Protocols, in particular,
that prohibit air bombing as well as all other acts of war, starvation,
or tortures against the civilian population, including the continuous
oil drilling at expense of the safety and rights of the indigenous population
in the oil-producing areas.
It is time to involve all warring parties in a permanent cease-fire as
a necessary step to encourage a permanent cease-fire and fair peace negotiations
that only will open the path for a democratic settlement of the Sudan
political crisis.
