TO THE SUDANESE
IN DIASPORA AND ALL FRIENDS OF SUDAN
Mr. Alfred Taban
is a professional Sudanese journalist whose arrest is a gross human
rights violation. It is a new evidence the NIF terrorist rule, by its
very non-civilized nature, will never respect the freedom of the Press
or the rights of journalists. Mr. Taban was brutally arrested by the
security forces with many other Christians who were peacefully protesting
the government's irresponsible attitude towards the holy festival of
Easter. The arrest and torture of Sudanese Christians in the streets
of Khartoum and the further destruction of the Cathedral are unprecedented
acts of religious intolerance and persecution of citizens. This testify
to the savage nature and practice of the NIF rulers or ideologues.
The Government
of Sudan must release Mr. Alfred Taban immediately from jail, insure
his safety and professional activity, and compensate him and all others
arrested, tortured, or injured according to law.
SHRO-Cairo Board
of Trust and Executive Committee strongly urge the International Community,
in general, and the United Nations Human Rights Commission, in particular,
to send an International Committee with Christian and Muslim Delegates
to investigate Sudan Government's acts of religious intolerance and
the aggressive attacks this government launched under the direct command
of its senior official Ali Osman Taha on the Sudanese Christians' peaceful
and legitimate celebrations of Easter. The findings of this Committee
should be immediately released to the whole world.
As emphasized by
SHRO-Washington, DC, the United Nations Security Council is strongly
urged to consider stronger sanctions on Sudan Government for the gross
human rights violations that persecute the Sudanese Christian citizens
for no reason in the Capital of Sudan.
Please send a Letter
of Solidarity to Mr. Taban, the Sudanese sisters and brothers arrested
in the Easter Rally, and their respectful family members and Churches
in Khartoum. Express your deep concern for the safety, health, and human
rights of these Sudanese citizens with your strong protest to the officials
of Sudan Government: Omer Al-Bashir and his deputy Ali Osman Taha at
the Republican Palace, Abdel-Rahim Hussain their minister of interior,
and Yasin Mohamed Osman, their minister of justice.
Please circulate
this Letter of Solidarity among your friends, Christians, Muslims, or
other faith.
